Parent Involvement

Wright Charter School NEEDS YOU!  Parent involvement in student education is beneficial to everyone.  When parents invest in their time and attention to supporting their student’s academic attainment, students get higher grades and test scores and are more invested in their own academic success.  These benefits have long term affects.  Parent involvement and interest in school activities affects student attitude about school, attendance, confidence in abilities, motivation and interest.  While teachers do their best to provide rich interesting and motivating learning experiences for student to engage in, parents promote the drive and motivation to learn through their interest in their child’s educational experience and academic growth.  Wright Charter School staff seeks to develop strong relationships with parents and guardians to develop student potential and promote student success.

We encourage parents and guardians to volunteer one to four hours a month at our school for a minimum total of ten hours per school year. We recognize that parents have to work and therefore we suggest many ways for parents and guardians to be involved.  The following is a list of ideas:

•    Classroom assistance
•    Event planning and coordination
•    Participation in parent advisory councils and/or Parent Teacher Club.
•    Field trips
•    Translating at conferences or meetings
•    Garden projects
•    Tutoring
•    Coaching sports
•    Clerical tasks
•    Classroom presentations
•    Help coordinate volunteer activities

Parents support student success daily by discussing each school day’s academic and social highlights, by overseeing the completion and return of homework, by insuring regular attendance, and by staying in communication with the school.  We encourage you to attend fun events such as the Pancake Breakfast and the School Carnival, and to attend meetings such as parent teacher conferences, and Back to School Night.  These events are excellent ways to stay involved and encourage your child’s continued success.  We look forward to working with you this year!

Donations:
We recognize that parents may not be able to complete ten hours of volunteer time at the school for various reasons.  As an alternative to volunteering, parents may donate the equivalent of $10.00 per hour.  Prior approval is required for all items donated.  Please call the office or the classroom teacher for suggestions.  (Some ideas may include supplies for science experiments, poster board, glue sticks, art paper, etc.) Parents may also make an equivalent cash donation to Wright Charter School.
